“Does Everything Happen for a Reason?:”

Good day to you, fair Reader. I hope that this entry finds you with a warm cup in hand and a peaceful moment to linger.

There is a question that has followed humanity for as long as stories have been told around hearth fires.

Does everything happen for a reason?

It is one of those questions that seems simple enough until life asks it of us.

When the sun shines upon our face after days of rain, it is easy to nod and say, “Yes, of course.” When an unexpected opportunity arrives, when we meet someone who changes the course of our lives, or when a single choice opens a door we never knew existed, we delight in calling it fate.

But what of the moments that leave us breathless with grief?

What of the endings we never asked for?

The people who leave too soon.

The friendships that quietly fade.

The love that never becomes what we hoped it would.

Those are the moments that make this question far more difficult.

As a witch, I have often thought of life as a woven tapestry. Every thread has its place, even the dark ones. Yet, while standing close to the loom, all we can see are knots, tangles and loose ends. We rarely have the privilege of stepping back far enough to see the entire design.

Perhaps that is why this question continues to haunt us.

I have come to believe that not everything happens because it was meant to happen.

Sometimes terrible things simply happen because we are human, because people make choices, because illness exists, because life can be wildly unpredictable.

Yet…

I do believe we have the sacred ability to choose what happens next.

That is where the magick lives.

The reason may not exist in the event itself.

The reason may be born from how we respond to it.

Every heartbreak teaches us something about love.

Every disappointment reveals what truly matters.

Every ending creates space for something we could never have imagined while we were clinging to what was.

It doesn’t erase the pain.

It doesn’t justify suffering.

It simply reminds us that even ashes can nourish new growth.

Nature teaches this lesson every single year. The mighty oak lets go of every leaf without certainty that spring will return. The forest floor becomes cluttered with what once was alive, only to feed what is yet to come.

The witch understands this.

Transformation rarely arrives wearing beautiful robes.

More often, it comes dressed as loss.

As uncertainty.

As silence.

As the long walk through the woods where the path disappears beneath fallen leaves.

Perhaps fate is less about a grand script already written and more about the conversations we choose to have with the Universe along the way.

Perhaps Spirit whispers opportunities rather than guarantees.

Perhaps our ancestors gently nudge rather than command.

Perhaps the Divine hands us the thread…

…and trusts us to decide what kind of tapestry we wish to weave.

So, do I believe everything happens for a reason?

Not exactly.

But I do believe that every experience offers us an invitation.

An invitation to grow.

To forgive.

To heal.

To become softer where we once were hardened.

Or stronger where we once were afraid.

Maybe that is reason enough.

Until next we meet around the hearth, may you trust that even if you cannot yet see the pattern your life is weaving, every stitch you make with kindness, courage and hope is creating something beautiful.

Until next time, may your hearth stay warm, your kettle ever singing and your path be lit by a little everyday magick.
